My daughter has had her computer for all of one day and has managed to get ie defender on it! We cannot get rid of it. Spybot finds it but then can't get rid of it. Also the computer will not let her uninstall programs because it says she "does not have administrator rights", yet she is listed as the administrator and is the only user of the computer. HELP needed with both issues. Do we have to wipe it clean anf re-format with Vista?

Also, I'm not familiar with Vista, but she should just be able to log on as Administrator to do what needs Administrator's rights.

It's part of windows vista security and you shouldn't remove it. It's a very good anti-spyware program. There's no reason to even have spybot anymore. I would remove that or tell it to ignore defender.

The reason you have Defender because she might've installed without knowing it is a very good anti-spyware program for 'Windows,To remove defender "which is called Windows defender" it is a anti-spyware program which Microsoft has put out. You go to settings click on 'ADD and Remove' if you have windows software, you click on remove it and it should get rid it. you don't need to format it.
It will tell you to restart your computer after you uninstall it.
The IE Defender scam and it's phony warnings, is a very tough malware to remove but it can be done manually. The procedure to remove IE Defender is here:
